To keep pace with the increasing air traveller population, the Government of Karnataka has proposed a High Speed Rail Link (HSRL) project connecting the city centre to the airport. This will cover approximately 33 kilometers with four stations at Cubbon Road (Terminal Station), Hebbal, Yelahanka, and Bengaluru International Airport (Terminal Station). The Cubbon Road station is proposed as a City Air Terminal (CAT) station with facilities for baggage and flight check-in, and the Terminal station at the airport is proposed to be an underground station at the forecourt of Passenger Terminal Building.

Travelling on this route will take about 25 minutes at an average speed of 80 km/ hr, with the initial service frequency of 10 minutes. The project is proposed to be implemented by the SPV Bangalore Airport Rail Link Limited (BARL) through the BOT (Build, Operate, Transfer) model, with Viability Gap Funding (VGF) by the Government of India and Government of Karnataka.
