Albert Brunner
Chief Executive Officer

Albert Brunner from Zurich, Switzerland, born in 1950 is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the new prestigious Bangalore International Airport Project.

Brunner was appointed as CEO of Bangalore International Airport Limited in 2002. Under his leadership, the Company reached Financial Closure in June 2005 and the construction of the airport began in July 2005. The new airport was operational from 24th May 2008.

Brunner has been in the airport business for the last 17 years and has served as a member of the Executive Board of Zurich Airport Authority from 1995.

A Civil Engineer by profession, he has also had postgraduate trainings in business administration.



Marcel Hungerbuehler
Chief OperationOfficer

Marcel Hungerbuehler joined the management team in January 2007 as the Chief Operation Officer. During his 38 years in the airline industry, Marcel Hungerbuehler has worked for Swissair, Swiss International Airlines and Swissport in various functions in operation, sales and marketing. He was Swissair’s Area Manager Singapore, Malaysia & Indonesia, District Manager UK & Ireland and Area Manager Asia and Middle East. Before moving to Bangalore, Marcel Hungerbuehler was Head of Swissport Zurich, the largest Ground Handling Company at Zurich Airport.




Karin Steinman
Chief Financial Officer

Karin Steinemann is the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Bangalore International Airport Limited, responsible for Financial and Accounting functions of the airport. She came onboard in July 2008. She has over 20 years of experience in the finance management business as a consultant and in the airport industry.

Karin Steinemann joins us from Unique Zurich Airport after having served there for the past eight years as Deputy Chief Financial Officer. In the course of her tenure at Unique, she was responsible for the Accounting Department as well as Risk-Management and Corporate Supply Management. She was also a member of the workgroup evaluating feasibility of financing stage 5 of the expansion of Zurich Airport including refinancing and of the crisis team established following the Swissair grounding. Steinemann is a certified Accountant and Financial Controller as well as a certified International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and International Accounting Standards (IAS) Accountant. She brings with her profound knowledge and experience in handling all financial matters of a fully functional airport




Thomas Rüppel
Chief Infrastructure Officer

Thomas Rüppel is the Chief Infrastructure Officer (CIO) of BIAL. Thomas Rüppel is responsible for the construction and maintenance of the entire infrastructure at the airport. He came onboard in January 1st 2007.

Thomas Rüppel has over 25 years of experience in the Construction and Facility Management business in industries such as Airline, Airport and the Hospitality. Before his assignment with BIAL, he worked with Swissair Real Estate / SAirGroup (Avireal) from 1988 to 2006 at Zurich Airport, and was later chosen as the CEO in 2005 of Avireal. He is an architect by profession. He has also undertaken a postgraduate training in business administration (MBA) in 1996.
