Certifications:

• In January 2010, the Bengaluru International Airport received a platinum certification from IATA for becoming the first airport in India to be 100% Bar Coded Boarding Passes (BCBP) complaint, testimony to the fact that BIAL has and will continue to pioneer best practices in the industry.
• In early 2010, BIAL also received the ISO 14001:2004 certification, an official recognition of the airport management’s constant efforts towards a greener airport and city.
• May 2010 saw BIAL receive ISO 27001 certification for Information Security Management System Standards.
• Following a process lasting almost six months, BIAL has had its work processes certified to the internationally recognized quality management system standard, ISO 9001: 2008. Bengaluru International Airport is now one of the first airports in the country to achieve this version of ISO 9001.
• BS 25999-2:2007 certified by British Standard Institution. BIAL is 1st Airport in Asia-Pacific and 2nd Globally to be certified this coveted certification, January 2012

BIAL clocks one million safe working hours:

• The construction industry is considered as one of the most hazardous and accident prone. However, BIAL managed to clock one million safe hours without any reportable Lost Time Injury (LTI) on 29th September, 2011.
• LTI, which stands for Lost Time Injury, is an internationally recognized indicator of any work related accident, which results in workers' injury, disabling them from work for more than 3 days. No LTI means full availability of workforce, full productivity and full efficiency, which ultimately reflects positively on the company's performance.
• To achieve over a million safe hours without any "reportable accidents" is a challenge, and requires the support of each and every individual in an organisation. It is also important for an organisation to lead the workforce towards safety. BIAL through its safety strategy has created enough awareness amongst the workers, which has helped them to achieve this target.
• The next target of BIAL is to improve upon the present record and go beyond it imparting more and more safety awareness sessions to people.

Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), the owner and operator of the new Bengaluru International Airport, is a public limited company, registered under the Indian Companies Act. Open Access Model

Bengaluru International Airport is a pioneer in institutionalising the Open Access Model in India. With this, we have enabled our airline operators to choose from a host of qualified fuel suppliers to buy fuel at competitive prices. This is a financially attractive model for airline operators. Implementation of this model is of strategic and economic importance to the airport, as it will increase air traffic significantly.

ATF (Air Turbine Fuel) Pipeline

Bengaluru International Airport is the first in the country to be connected by an offsite ATF pipeline of international quality standards. This 33-kilometer underground pipeline, commissioned for the common use of all fuel suppliers by the airport’s fuel farm concessionaire – Indian Oil Skytanking Limited (IOSL), aims to increase efficiency. The pipeline, running from the train depot at Devanagonthi to the airport fuel farm, has the capacity to pump over 1,56,000 litres of ATF per hour.

Common IT Infrastructure

Bengaluru International Airport is a full-fledged IT service provider, maximizing the efficiency of shared IT resources. Our service oriented, common IT infrastructure is the backbone assuring our passengers seamless, efficient and quick services. At the airport, we provide both wired and wireless network, telecommunications, internet, check-in counters, security and baggage reconciliation. Our common check-in counters and boarding gates can be switched around seamlessly between the airlines. The common-use model is cost-effective for airlines and concessionaires, extending the benefit of managing the underlying IT infrastructure.

CUTE (Common Use Terminal Equipment)

Bengaluru International Airport operates on CUTE. The Common Use Terminal Equipment is yet another first of its kind in India. By including this facility, the airport has not just broken the barrier of having dedicated airline counters. It has also opened an avenue for reducing operating costs. All domestic and international airlines at the airport operate on CUTE, allowing optimal use of check-in facilities for the airlines.

CUSS (Common Use Self-Service)

Bengaluru International Airport has installed 18 CUSS kiosks on its campus. The self service provides passengerswith a faster check-in option. Resulting in reduced costs and improved operational efficiency of the airlines.

BCBP (Bar Coded Boarding PASS) Compliant

Bengaluru International Airport is the first BCBP Compliant airport in India to receive a platinum certification from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The 2D-barcode system not only helps passengers by introducing a faster and easier check-in process and paperless travel, but also helps the airline industry significantly.

AOCC (Airport Operations Control Centre)

India’s first 24/7 AOCC rests at Bengaluru International Airport. At the nerve-centre of the entire airport operation, the AOCC seamlessly manages daily operations at the airport. The function chain is streamlined for smooth, efficient and well-coordinated operations. The AOCC provides a common overview of real-time operations to all its stakeholders and thus facilitates a collaborative decision-making process.

Swing gates between international and domestic areas

Extending its passenger-centric approach, Bengaluru International Airport has strategically positioned swing gates between international and domestic areas. Another first innovation to be pioneered at the airport, this facility enhances the capacity and smoother flow of airport traffic.

Bengaluru International Airport is the first in India to offer retail spaces that seamlessly accommodate passenger flow. The passengers at the airport can conveniently shop at one place without having to go to separate shopping areas. Furthermore, the Airport also offers transport facilities ranging from bus service, taxis and even heli-charter services that connect to the city. Thus addressing the conveyance need of all passengers.

Giving cargo requirements a lift

To cater to the needs of our cargo fraternity and our local economy, we at Bangalore International Airport Limited have commissioned two cargo majors – SATS/ Air India and Bobba Group/Menzies Aviation. Community Service
